Carlthorp School seeks a responsible and dedicated individual to join our team as a part-time Elementary School Yard Supervisor. The Yard Supervisor will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our students during outdoor playtime. This part-time position involves supervising students on the schoolyard, promoting positive play experiences, supporting conflict resolution, and maintaining effective communication with homeroom teachers and the Physical Education (PE) staff.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise students during outdoor playtime, maintaining a safe and secure environment.
- Promote positive and inclusive play experiences, encouraging cooperation and respectful behavior among students.
- Monitor students' activities and intervene when necessary to address any conflicts or safety concerns.
- Support students in conflict resolution using the Carlthorp School “Take 5” model, guiding them to find peaceful resolutions independently or with assistance.
- Maintain effective communication with homeroom teachers and PE staff, reporting any incidents, concerns, or noteworthy observations promptly.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to reinforce school rules and expectations for behavior during outdoor playtime.
- Provide assistance and first aid when needed, following established protocols and ensuring the well-being of students.
- Act as a positive role model for students, demonstrating respect, kindness, and fairness in all interactions in alignment with our school’s Code of Conduct.
- Attend required training sessions and meetings to stay updated on school policies, emergency procedures, and best practices for yard supervision.
- Team player that works collaboratively with others and is flexible to assist with other tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in a school or youth program setting.
- Familiarity with elementary-aged students' needs, behaviors, and developmental stages.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and parents/guardians.
- Ability to facilitate conflict resolution and promote a positive and inclusive play environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to fulfill the scheduled hours consistently.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and make sound judgments in fast-paced situations.
- First Aid and CPR certification preferred (willingness to obtain upon hiring acceptable).
Schedule: Part-time, 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. (daily)
Compensation: $25-30 per hour, commensurate with experience
