Job Description:
Job Summary
At Southwest Airlines, the Safety of our Customers, Employees, and aircraft is our number one priority. The Safety Programs Specialist i s part of the Safety & Security Department and will su pport the development, monitoring, and implementation of Safety Programs to help drive occupational safety within the Operation . This role partners with Southwest Airlines University (SWAU) to develop effective Safety training based on federal/state regulations, Company policies , and industry best practices. The Safety Programs Specialist is a strong communicator who is detail-oriented and excited to join a n integral Team in achieving Southwest’s top priority .

This role is a hybrid position based out of our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX, which requires Employees to work onsite on our Corporate Campus at least three days a week. The Department designates the specific three days of the week Employees must work on-site.

U.S. citizenship or current authorization to work in the U.S. is required , and no current or future work authorization sponsorship available.

Responsibilities

Research Safety regulations, and assist with the development, review and maintenance of SWA policies and procedures

Respond to issues from the Field and Corporate departments, and provide guidance based on Federal/state regulation, Company policy and industry best practices

Assist in developing responses to governmental agencies

Work with Southwest Airlines University (SWAU) and Operating Departments to develop effective Safety training

Perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of Occupational Safety regulations and resources

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Ability to read, interpret and articulate state and federal regulations

Ability to develop and execute effective project and program plans Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience

Entry level experience, developing skills and knowledge in:
Working in a Safety related field
Writing and overseeing occupational Safety Programs
Occupational Safety best practices
Licensing/Certification
N/A
Physical Abilities
Ability to perform work duties from limited space work station/desk/office area for extended periods of time
Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Ability to perform assigned duties with potential exposure to excessive noise, vibrations and/or sensory conditions
Ability to work at elevated heights

Other Qualifications:
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Ability to travel and work extended hours based on operation needs

Pay & Benefits:
Competitive market salary from $76,500 per year to $85,000 per year* depending on qualifications and experience, with opportunity for future pay increases based on performance and market movement. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the Company.
