Duties

  • Manage all Joni and Friends’ international translation resources and projects, including current translations and future translations
    • Catalog current resources and languages: titles, subject matter, format (print, published, video, online, etc.)
    • Identify languages that are underrepresented and critical resource needs for translation in those languages
    • Catalog additional resources produced by outside publishers
  • Develop and implement translation policies, procedures, and processes that takes into consideration the following:
    • Theological considerations in alignment with Joni and Friends
    • Disability language considerations relative to a biblical view on disability
    • Contextualization considerations for relevance within cultural contexts
    • Copyright, publishing rights, licenses, and intellectual property rights
    • Translation, publishing, and distribution around the world
  • Assist the SVP with communications between legal and other departments for appropriate licenses, contracts, and intellectual property safeguarding (publishing, copyright, publishing rights, limited-use license, independent contractors, etc.)
  • Serve as liaison to relevant departments of The Joni Eareckson Tada Center for Disability Research (Education, Publishing, and Theology) and Visual Media Services (VMS) to catalog and organize all resources owned by Joni and Friends and relevant for international translations
    • Identify resources with appropriate copyright and publishing rights held by Joni and Friends that can be translated
    • Identify out of print resources relevant for international use that Joni and Friends can purchase publishing rights
    • Discover and recommend new resources needed for international ministry, to be created by Joni and Friends or obtained through license agreements
  • Serve as a liaison and content expert between International Regional Managers and the Marketing Department in assisting with international landing pages and international branding initiatives
    • Provide and keep current viable content to be translated and placed on international landing pages
    • Obtain up to date information and keep current for each country: future programs, volunteer opportunities, outreaches, education, and training events, contact information, and all other pertinent ministry information for the landing pages
  • Integrate with all departments relative to needed content from international ministries for marketing, promotions, training, etc.
    • Serve as liaison for VMS in obtaining needed photos, videos, stories and/or appropriate vendors within countries
    • Serve as liaison to The Joni Eareckson Tada Center for Disability Research for recommended education and training content for both print and online education
  • Discover and retain appropriate translators within the United States and internationally for language specific translation projects
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by the Supervisor to support department and organizational needs

Qualifications

  • Must possess a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ and agree with the Joni and Friends statement of faith
  • Desire to serve in a growing and dynamic Christian service ministry
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience required in publishing, with international translation experience a plus
  • Master’s degree preferred (English, Business), or equivalent knowledge and experience in the field of publishing and translations required
  • Requires domestic and international travel of approximately 20%
  • Good interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to effectively organize and prioritize a wide range of daily tasks with varied deadlines
  • Must be detail oriented, committed to accuracy, a team player and self-starter who is flexible and able to work independently
  • Must have a strong sense of confidentiality
  • Strong general computer skills are necessary along with a competent, working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and the Internet
  • Understanding of Christian ministry and specifically Joni and Friends is desirable

Compensation in CA is $72,000 - $82,000 (exempt) Hybrid position (M/Tu/Th in office, W/F remote)
