Public Information Specialist 2 [United States]

Duties Description
The selected candidate will report directly to NYMTC’s Executive Director and work closely with NYMTC’s Assistant Directors in maintaining daily communications with NYMTC members, stakeholders, media and the public. The Public Information Officer would provide information of NYMTC’s core products. Responsible for developing media strategies; communicating with the public, media, agencies, etc.; develop and maintain a positive image of the agency. Duties may include:

  • Manage NYMTC Public Involvement Plan;
  • Supervise consultant staff in distribution of public notices to contacts;
  • Supervise the dissemination and gathering of information to and from the public, members of NYMTC and other stakeholders;
  • Manage email service provider for distribution of NYMTC announcements, notices and other news;
  • Establish public information and communication operations for NYMTC, including formulating communication/marketing strategy;
  • Plan and direct public information programs designed to create and maintain public outreach efforts;
  • Manage communications with press, staff, consultants, public information offices, member agencies and the public;
  • Develop content for and update website; ensure information is up-to-date and screen content being uploaded;
  • Prepare media advisories and press releases; approve, maintain and develop content for social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube;
  • Respond to media inquiries, including writing and disseminating press advisories and releases; facilitate dialogue with the public during public meetings, outreach events, etc.;
  • Write, review, edit and/or revise public facing documents, including NYMTC Notes newsletter, annual report, publications, etc.;
  • Work with all staff, across groups, to gather information and content to support NYMTC’s core products;
  • Participate in surveys and data collection activities to support technical efforts;
  • Act as spokesperson for and representative of NYMTC;
  • Point of contact to receive requests regarding Freedom of Information Law and Records Access;
  • Develop presentations and correspondence for Executive Director and others as needed; and
  • Possess knowledge of New York City, downstate New York State and local government.

Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the
department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
